Start with the front approach
Front-entry coverage matters because it catches deliveries, visitors, and anyone approaching the door. On many Toronto streets, a second angle toward the driveway or porch path gives a much better story than one tight shot at the bell.
Do not ignore side access and the backyard
Side gates, rear walkouts, laneway access, and detached garages are where homes often lose visibility. If there is a path that bypasses the front door, it usually deserves a camera.
The right angle also cuts down on false alerts from public sidewalks and road traffic.
Aim for useful footage, not just more footage
Camera count alone does not make a system better. Height, lighting, glare, and lens choice decide whether the clip helps later.
A smart layout covers entrances and blind corners first, then fills in special areas like backyard patios, shared lanes, or parking pads.
