Agree on the purpose before choosing locations
The project team should define the incidents the system is meant to address, who may view footage, and how long recordings are kept. From there we review entrances, vestibules, garages, loading areas, mailrooms, bicycle rooms, amenity access, waste areas, and exterior approaches. Cameras should collect only the views needed for the stated security purpose and avoid spaces where people reasonably expect privacy.
Coordinate the building before the cable pull
Access above finished ceilings, fire separations, concrete structure, elevator interfaces, telecom rooms, risers, parking levels, and approved work hours all affect the design. We document routes and equipment locations with the property contact and coordinate with the building electrician, IT provider, access-control vendor, or fire-stopping contractor where their work is required.
Make administration part of commissioning
A shared system needs named views, accurate timestamps, secure credentials, limited user permissions, a footage-request process, and a clear retention setting. We test live view, playback, and export with the authorized contact. Privacy policy, signage, and legal compliance remain the building operator’s responsibility, and we can configure the system to support the policy they approve.
